The exist†trace fierce girls are back with an astounding

This time I'll talk about a very special trio of incredibly talented singers: Kalafina.

Wakana, Keiko and Hikaru - From the album 'Seventh Heaven'

Produced by famous japanese composer Yuki Kajiura, Kalafina started as group of two singers, Wakana and Keiko (from the composer's FictionJunction project), that would sing the themes for the seven movies of Type-Moon's anime series Kara no Kyoukai, released on japanese theaters.

After releasing their first single 'oblivious' in the beginning of 2008, the girls were praised for their beautiful vocals and harmonization. In May 2008, Yuki Kajiura held an audition to choose two more members for Kalafina. The selected ones were Hikaru and Maya. Right after the auditions, the group released their second single 'sprinter/ARIA', in which both new members appeared in the music video.

'sprinter''s Music Video - still one of the fans' favorite songs

Continuing the releases of the movie's themes, Kalafina released another single in 2008, called 'fairytale'. But fans were surprised as Maya's vocals weren't heard in the song and she wasn't shown on the music video. Hoping for her return, fans continued to support the group normally, until their next single 'Lacrimosa' was released (in the same day as their first album 'Seventh Heaven'), when Sony made a post on their site confirming that Maya would no longer participate in Kalafina's activites.

Despite Maya's departure, the group had a successful year, releasing two more singles, now for different animes or TV shows, as their first album contained the last of the Kara no Kyoukai's themes. In 2010, the girls released their second album, 'Red Moon'. Presenting a darker atmosphere and experimental sounds, the album impressed fans with its superior quality.

After the album's release, Kalafina held a tour to promote it. Fans weren't disappointed as the girls proved their spectacular vocals in a wonderful performance. Their next single, 'Kagayaku Sora no Shijima ni Wa' was only released half a year later, in September 2010. In December, Kalafina released their first Live DVD from the Red Moon tour.

For 2011, Kalafina has announced a single release in February called 'Magia'.

These girls don't fail to impress me! I love this group to bits and I hope you can enjoy it too! I really recommend the album 'Red Moon' and their DVD. If you like it, please remember to support the group! Aren't these girls awesome? *0*

To start my posts on korean artists, I chose my favorite girl group: f(x).

Victoria, Amber, Sulli, Krystal and Luna

Formed in 2009 under S.M. Entertainment, f(x) is a 5-member group. Also known as the female 'Dance Group' of S.M., the label sisters of boy band SHINee debuted with the song 'La cha ta'. f(x) then gathered attention with the member's good-looks, especially the tomboy-ish member Amber, the rapper.

Despite the catchy song and attractive members, f(x) did not win any award for 'La Cha Ta'. The same happened with their first official single 'Chu' (the debut song was released only as a digital single), although both songs helped to increase the group's popularity among korean and international fans.

The burst of popularity came in May, 2010 with the release of the first mini-album, "NU ABO". The catchy lyrics, change of style, attitude and an incredible dance choreography impressed the fans. Unfortunately, the competition with veteran boy band 2PM ended up in losing the awards once again. Still, the mini-album was important as it put the girls in the spotlight.

NU ABO's Music Video - A new f(x) was presented to the public

What the fans didn't expect though was the ankle injury Amber suffered during 'NU ABO''s promotion. After spending some time promoting the song with Amber sitting on a chair, the group's agency decided she should get some rest for better recovery. Then, f(x) finished their promotions without Amber on the stage. Follow-up promotions with the song 'Mr. Boogie' were made only with the other four girls.

 2011 Calendar -- Amber-less f(x)

Time passed and Amber didn't come back. S.M. says she's still recovering, now in the US. While people search for information on her disappearance, Victoria, Krystal, Sulli and Luna gain popularity on variety and music shows. Is this a way of focusing the fans' attention on the other girls? Is S.M.Entertainment hyping the group's comeback by hiding Amber? I don't know, but it's certainly interesting to watch the development of this excellent group. I'm really excited for their 2011 comeback and I hope they'll win many awards next time, because they deserve it!

    What's your opinion? ^^

I thought it would be fair to start this blog with my favorite japanese group: ALI PROJECT.

 Arika Takarano (vocals)

Well, ALI PROJECT has a big history in the japanese music scene as they started in 1988. You can read more about their career on their Wikipedia article.

If you are a jpop fan, you may know them. AND you may 'hate' them. I know a lot of people do. Why is that? I would say it's because they're different, unique. ALI PROJECT is one in a million, a band that makes it's own music in their own style. A hater usually says "all their songs sound the same!". That's kinda true if you hear only their anisongs (songs made for animes), which is what most people end up doing (not their fault, I know, as you need to search a little deeper to find their other works). Not that I don't like the anisongs, actually they are usually catchier ^^

Therefore, I would like to show you some of their songs from original albums, which are never used as anime themes (their anisongs are always from singles). But before that, just remember that their songs vary between MANY styles, and hearing a song or two isn't enough to know this incredible duo.

An example of their traditional classical songs found in most albums. From the strings-album 'Gothic Opera' (2010)

'Gokushoku Ichidai Onna' from their original album 'Poison' (2009) - An unexpected style of song, now a fan-favorite.

Besides the unique songs, what also impresses me is their visual style. Arika Takarano, the singer, dresses for each single, album or concerts in a whole different way, changing even the hairstyle, color and many other details. Each release has it's own 'theme' and the costumes are a way of making a better presentation of that 'theme'.

Cover of 'Ranse Eroica', a space/videogame-themed single released on July, 2010.

I was thinking about recommending the best albums, singles or songs, but I just can't choose them! ALI PROJECT is such an awesome band and everybody should give them a chance...even a second one~

So what do you think? ^^

PS: Since this is my first post, the image-text-video structure might change in the future until I find one that suits my idea for this blog. :]
